A philological study on poisoning of Melonis Calyx(瓜?)

Abstract

|
Melonis Calyx is in use in the Korean medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Melonis Calyx for causing vomiting endopathic wind-phlegm(涌吐風痰), etc. I investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Melonis Calyx. The results were summarized as follows： 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are melotoxin, cucurbitacine, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Melonis Calyx mainly can cause stimulating symptoms on digestive system, nervous system, and cardiovascular system, etc and cause hypersensitive reaction on the skin. 2. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in the Korean medicine take advantage of herbs, such as Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens(生薑), Moschus(麝香), Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), Alli Radix(蔥白), etc. And the Korean medical doctor should meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 3. The representative methods in poisoning treatments of the western medicine are promoting vomiting, washing out the stomach, causing diarrhea, supplies of grape sugar and symptomatic treatment, etc. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Melonis Calyx, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
